Puppy Stimulation (Day 19)

Videos of my sister trying to get Hermione to go potty. But she, like the others, are mostly going on their own. Hermione is always the last one fed because she is so chill, so we get the best videos of her. But more are coming in the next few days ... as soon as I buy new batteries for my camera!

Day 18 Video (Before & After Feeding)

The video above is the puppies before they eat. The video below is the puppies after eating, but before they fall asleep.

Weights (Day 18):

Reuben (Brown Boy): 5 lb 4 oz
Lucy (Red Girl): 4 lb 6 oz
Padme (Purple Girl): 4 lb 8 oz
Vader (Green Boy): 5 lb 4 oz
Strider (Blue Boy): 4 lb 13 oz
Evey (Yellow Girl): 4 lb 9 oz
Thorin (Orange Boy): 4 lb 5 oz
Arwen (Pink Girl): 4 lb 8 oz
Hermione (Brown Girl): 4 lb 4 oz

Hermione and Reuben are also sporting new collars. They don't really need them, but we didn't want them to feel left out. ;-)

Pics - Day 18 (New Puppy Digs!)

Crate is for sleeping ... pads are for peeing ... don't think they've figured that out yet!

More sleepy puppies!

Strider fast asleep. He is a sound sleeper ... fully pose-able!

Vader was being grumpy, so he got some extra lovin'. Teething will do that to you.

Food is coming...

Somebody is taking a poo on their own ... no more diarrhea. All poos are chocolate brown and the consistency of toothpaste. I know .... TMI.

Waiting for dinner.

Fast asleep ... half in and half out.

Last Day in the Whelping Box - Video (Day 17)

The puppies' last day in the whelping box. They kept getting stuck under the guard rails, and their new digs will (slowly) teach them that there's one place to sleep and another place to go potty. They are pretty mobile, walking around on wobbly legs, and everyone has their eyes and ears open. They are also teething.

You can't see it, but we have puppy pads under the blankets too, and they get soaked every 12 hours. All of the pups are able to go on their own, but we still stimulate them when we feed them just to make sure!

In this video, we are waiting for the milk to get to the right temperature in order to feed them.

Day 13 - Hermione Video & Puppy Weights

All puppies were approximately 1 lb 8 oz when they were born (we were using a less-than accurate kitchen scale). Using our brand-new, accurate-to-the-nearest-ounce fishing scale, these were the weights recorded after feeding on the evening of day 13:

Reuben (Brown Boy): 3 lbs 12 oz
Lucy (Red Girl): 3 lbs 8 oz
Padmé (Purple Girl): 3 lbs 2 oz
Vader (Green Boy): 3 lbs 15 oz
Strider (Blue Boy): 3 lbs 7 oz
Evey (Light Green/Yellow Girl): 3 lbs 5 oz
Thorin (Orange/Brown Boy): 3 lbs 3 oz
Arwen (Pink/Grey Girl): 3 lbs 5 oz
Hermione (Brown Girl): 3 lbs 3 oz

All pups have doubled their weight, and Reuben & Vader are pushing 4 lbs!

Day 12 Video - Feeding Time

Feeding time! The pups have figured out where they need to be. Quite a few puppies have their eyes open. Brown girl is enjoying a snooze b/c she had a top-up between feedings when she was still hungry. Everybody has new collars except the brown puppies ...; we might get them some just so they don't feel left out!

Everybody is gaining weight steadily ... everyone but two pups have passed 3 lbs, and the smallest two aren't far behind!

Day 12 Pics

Food!

Food ... food ... food!

The puppies love to run/walk/toddle underneath the guard rail.

We'll need to add the front soon!

Wrong wall, Purple Girl!

Ready to start feeding.

Full bellies.

Everyone is asleep. Well, almost!

More video - day 8

Brown Boy ... aka Thor ... enjoying a bottle-feeding from Lara, one of the amazing people who has volunteered to come in and help out with the pups. He drank about 60 mL in one feeding. Puppies are now being fed every 3-4 hours (which seems almost manageable, compared to the 2-3 we were doing initially).

Video - Day 8

After feeding... sleepy but alert.

Pics from Day 8 (April 16)

It's been a rough couple of days of diarrhea and vet calls early in the morning and late at night, but happy to report that all pups are doing well. We would weigh them, but they are too big for the scale we bought and we'll have to modify it or get another.

Sunday 14 April 2013

Video 3 (Day 5)

Blue Boy, aka Loki, getting fed. He's a contrary little character, to be sure. Once he figures out what to do, though, he can knock back the formula pretty quickly.

Video 2 (Day 5)

Puppies after feeding getting ready to go to sleep. Twitching in their sleep means they're healthy pups ... and being spread out and not all clumped together means they're nice and warm. We've been regulating temp very carefully, and the heat lamp is in one corner of the box so the pups can self-regulate as necessary.

Video 1 (Day 5)

Nathan stimulating one of the pups to go potty. It apparently wasn't in the mood. Most of them are going in the whelping box now. All pups have gained close to a pound since birth and are on track to double their birth weights by day 10.

Day 4

Brown girl ... I think.

Red girl. Quite the active puppy when she wants some milk.

Asleep after eating.

Kia mothering her tennis ball ... the only "puppy" she loves.

Birthday Pics

All nine.
The first four to be born.
